Entry # 2

One thing about this class is that you never know what will be thrown at you. One time, you just do the usual classroom discussion setup, another time you do sharing with groups that are more personal but nevertheless related to CSR matters. And the latter is what we exactly did during our third meeting in CSRGOVE. Today, we were asked to do the hand activity, where we drew our hands and labeled our fingers according to the following:

Thumb - ethical issues you face in life
pointer - values you practice
Middle - initials of your inspiration
Ring - values you will impart to you your kids
Pinky - principle in life

The first moment of dread came when Dr. Bonnet grouped us by counting and i was grouped with people other than my friends. Even more, I would be sharing PERSONAL things I wouldn’t even be comfortable sharing with my friends. But, I just told myself to get over it, it’s not like my group mates know me, haha! Thankfully, my group mates were all very kind and very funny so there wasn’t much of an awkwardness looming around us. When it was finally time to share, I listened to their inputs. I was the third out of the five people in our group to share. Here are my inputs:

Thumb - not being able to say what i truly feel sometimes
Pointer - not judging immediately, respecting other people’s opinion
Middle - B.G, C.G (my parents - C.G, grandma - B.G)
Ring - respect, to fight for what they believe in
Pinky - Be nice to people no matter how they are because you never know they might be fighting a hard battle.

After the sharing, we found out that the common denominator in our group is that our inspiration are our parents, we want to instill respect in our kids and we try to respect others’ opinions. I learned that no matter how different our personalities interests are with one another, our values and beliefs in life may not differ drastically. I’m guessing it has something to do with the culture of the Filipinos in a way that we all share that value the same way another culture has their own values. It’s amazing to know that values are what makes you unique as an individual and at the same time binds you to the people you meet in life.
